A leadership organization and competitive event participation opportunity for students interested in the healthcare field. This is an organization that is under the Health and Human Services Academy and lead by Jennifer Doran.
Who can join HOSA?
Students enrolled in PLTW Biomedical Science classes or students interested in pursuing a career in the healthcare field.
HOSA Competitive Events
Students can compete in two events offered by HOSA.
If a student chooses to participate, it is expected that the student puts in time outside of the school day to prepare for the competitive event.
On-line testing events take place in March.
State Leadership Conference takes place in April for other competitive events.
Membership Fees
$60.00 Co-curricular fee (if in a sport you do need not to pay this again)
Affiliation fees for students planning to attend the state leadership and national leadership conferences must be received prior to registering for these events.
Students who do not affiliate by the appropriate date will not be eligible to participate in the HOSA Competitive Events Program, HOSA Scholarship Program or seek state or national office.
National competitors must be affiliated prior to their state conference to be eligible for participation at the national leadership conference.
State competition fee is $70.00 plus hotel, food and bussing.
National competition fee is $90.00 plus hotel, food and travel arrangements.
Membership Requirements
To be a member and maintain membership a student must participate in at least two events that the New London HOSA organization sponsors.
A student will fill out an activity form and turn it into the advisosr of the organization.
If a student does not participate in two events, then they will not be able list HOSA as an organization that they were a part of on scholarship forms or other work/volunteer forms. The advisor will not sign the forms or back them as being a member.
HOSA Membership Requirements
Co-curricular fee paid
At least 2 different activities-service activities, fundraisers or hosa sponsored activities (not including your own preparation for your competitive event)
Must be completed by April 31st
Need an advisor or HOSA officer to sign off that you completed the event
If you don’t meet the requirements then you won’t be considered an active member of HOSA
