Bilingual Program

Bilingual education is defined as education in two languages.  The School District of New London provides a transitional Spanish bilingual program.  In a transitional bilingual program, non-English speaking students are taught English as their second language while they continue to achieve academic goals in their first language.  Bilingual students are held to the same high academic standards as English-speaking students.  The State of Wisconsin and the Federal Government demand accountability for all students.  In order for non-English speaking students to increase their academic proficiency, instruction in their native language is essential.

All bilingual elementary students in the School District of New London are offered bilingual instruction at Lincoln and Parkview Elementary Schools.  New London Middle School and New London High School provide bilingual support in all academic subjects to second language learners.  Bilingual services are a vital part of the commitment of the School District of New London as our mission is Success for All Students.  New London is proud of the bilingual program it offers.

Interpreter Services

The School District of New London is committed to providing communication access to our multilingual families to ensure all are provided with news, issues, events and materials within our District.  Offering equitable services is a vital part of the commitment of the School District of New London as our mission is Success for All Students.  

If a language other than English is spoken in the home, we encourage the School District of New London families to utilize our Bilingual Phone Line to assist with:

• Enrollment and Registration
• Clarifying information or gain further understanding on District communications

• Non-site specific questions or concerns

  • If you have a school or classroom specific question, need to speak with your student’s teacher, or need to report an absence, please contact your student’s school and request to speak to an interpreter.

Additionally, for computers or electronic news, the School District of New London utilizes Google Translate which is available for most devices and used to translate in a multitude of languages.  Google Translate does not replace the translation or interpretation services the District provides, but instead, helps to navigate online and electronic materials to improve communication with those who may speak another language besides English.  This feature may be found at the top of the District Website by using the translate button noted in yellow in the image below.
