Character Kids

Character Kids are 3rd and 4th grade students who give up their recess time to rehearse for skits and other entertainment that is performed at our school’s monthly character assembly. Students who are not comfortable with performing are more than welcome to help out with costumes, props, set up, etc.

The Character Kids contribute to the contents of the skits and are encouraged to use their creativity when performing. Students who participate have stated a greater comfort level with public speaking, a greater feeling of leadership and a feeling of connectedness to their school.

Parents/guardians and grand parents are always more than welcome to come to school for character assemblies.

Peer Mediators

Peer mediation is something that is available to the entire student body and is requested by filling out a form when two students experience a conflict with one another and are unable to work it out on their own. Peer mediators are 4th grade students who are trained in October and are scheduled to handle mediations as they are requested. Mediators are expected to demonstrate positive character and leadership skills by acting as outstanding role models. Mediators are required to complete a monthly progress monitoring report to ensure that they are making positive choices in school and in the home environment.
Mediations most often takes place in Ms. Kempf’s classroom and is always supervised by an adult. Mediators use a problem solving process, are always fair and do not take sides or offer solutions to the conflict. Mediations typically last about ten minutes and have shown to decrease discipline referrals to the office.

Bulldogs of Character

Each month at ParkviewElementary School, a different “Bulldog Pillar of Character” trait is discussed in classes. All pillars of character are listed on the School District of New London yearly calendar.
Adults working or visiting at ReadfieldElementary School may nominate a student who has demonstrated exemplary character during the month. The students are congratulated at the monthly character assembly for their outstanding behavior and a certificate in their honor is also hung on the wall for the month.

Class of Character

Each month, a mystery staff at Parkview Elementary School is selected to monitor classes for excellent behavior in conjunction with the monthly character pillar. The mystery staff can be anyone, except for a grade level teacher and their task is to choose a class that demonstrates outstanding character for the month. The mystery staff is revealed and the Class of Character is announced at the monthly character assembly. The teacher of the winning class is crowned and the crown remains in their classroom for the remainder of the month.

 WEE Deliver

Welcome to Parkview’s interschool postal service. Students in the 5th grade are able to apply for a job at our post-office. They take a tour of our local post office, and then learn the job so that they can perform it at Parkview. We are able to write letters to everyone at our school! You just address your letter, put on a “stamp” and drop it in the regulation mailbox in the hallway. Our postal workers will pick up the mail daily, sort, and deliver it to its destination. Postmasters are Mrs. Calabria and Mrs. Holewinski.
Get the word out – start writing!

Mall in the Hall

Mall in the Hall is Parkview Elementary’s school store. The store is run by 4th grade students, with the guidance of Mrs. Collar, and all profits will be used for incentives at Parkview School.
