Character Rocks Everyone’s World (CREW)
CREW members are directly involved in the planning and carrying out of programs and activities to increase the awareness and recognition of character education at New London Intermediate and Middle School. CREW members must have a willingness to be an active participant and positive leader. Also, CREW participants must possess a genuine interest in the promotion of Building Bulldogs of Character.
CREW activities are open to ALL grades for ALL students who qualify at the time of the event. To participate the student must be up-to-date with their school work and display positive character and behavior. Students have the opportunity to volunteer for various CREW events. Participation or exclusion in one activity does not mean they will be expected at or disqualified from future CREW events. Participation in some activities will be limited to the number of volunteers needed. In this case, priority will be given to the qualified participants, who signed up and returned their permission forms first. Some events will be off-campus. Therefore, permission forms will be sent home for students who sign up for those events. CREW volunteers will be responsible for any work that they miss in class while participating in a CREW event.
We have chosen nine different character traits to focus on throughout the year. They are:
September - Self-discipline
October - Caring
November - Cooperation
December - Respect
January - Responsibility
February - Diversity
March - Fairness
April - Trustworthiness
May - Citizenship
Events that CREW have participated in the past few years including reading Dr. Suess’s books to elementary school students, completing activities with residents of the Washington Center, promote character education through Drama Troupe, gain communication and leadership skills through Peer Share Day, assist with Nature Day at Mosquito Hill, and volunteer with selected school programming such as Mix It Up Day.
