National Honor Society is an organization that recognizes students based on their scholarship, leadership, service and character. To be eligible for National Honor Society a student has to:
-
Have a GPA of 3.5 or higher
-
Have one leadership role within an organization in the school or community
-
Participate in three service activities within the school or community
-
Participate in three extra-curricular activities within the school
-
Complete an essay explaining the three qualities that they feel would make them a good candidate for NHS
Teachers of New London High School then evaluate the students on their scholarship, character and leadership in the classroom. Then the Faculty Council, consisting of five teachers, makes the final decision for a student to become a member of the National Honor Society. Once accepted, students must also plan on participating in service activities for the remainder of their high school career. Students are often leaders of the organizations and athletic teams that they are a part of. They are motivated students who are willing to take charge of events that will benefit the school and community.
