-
Ask your student “what” they have for homework rather than “if” they have homework. If he/she replies by saying “nothing”, check Skyward or ask to see their homework or project. If everything is complete, encourage your student to read or complete some extra credit.
-
Provide reasonable space and time for your student to study. Start with short time increments and then increase as necessary. Be consistent. Select a space free from other distractions.
-
Check your students’s grades on Skyward at least once a week. If you don’t have access at home, the high school and public library provide public access. Please contact the School Counseling Office (982-8435) if you have questions regarding how to access online grades. Encourage your student to seek help when needed.
-
Email or telephone teachers with any questions/concerns. If you are interested in a conference, please contact your student’s teacher personally. Don’t wait until the end of the quarter/semester.
-
Make sure your student attends school daily and arrives on time. Schedule appointments and vacations during planned days off or outside of the school day. These require a preplanned absence form.
-
If your student is unable to attend, please request assignments by calling student services at 982-8420 (ext 1006) before 10:00 a.m.
-
Establish rewards/consequences as needed based on your student’s performance and behavior. Make sure all such measures are reasonable and follow through.
-
Most importantly, remember that our main concern is your student’s success. Please let us know how we can help.
